The Institute of Road and Transport Technology started functioning on 10.10.1984 as an automobile research oriented institute under the auspices of the Institute of Road Transport (IRT), Taramani, Chennai and the State Transport Undertakings (STUs)

 The history of the department dates back to 1986 with intake 30 when it was functioning with the department of Electrical Science.  In the year 1994, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department was started

The department is headed by Dr.R.Anita with 23 years of teaching experience and specialized in the area of Drives and control. The department has successfully completed 4 projects funded by Tamil Nadu state council for Science and Technology, Chennai.
